Wright County drivers had a rough week last week after the county sheriff’s office reported more than 20 accidents on local roads, including a high number of property damage crashes and a slew of car vs. deer accidents.
With the fall “rut” in full swing and colder weather approaching, deer in the area are on the move, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as the Minnesota State Patrol, are asking people to be very cautions, particularly at dawn and dusk.
Deer hunting season, which starts in a couple of weeks, will also move deer into new areas as pressure is put on the population. Studies show crashes tend to increase in the opening days after hunting starts.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported 18 property damage accidents, three personal injury accidents, two hit-and-run accidents and 14 car vs. deer accidents in the Oct. 13 to Oct. 20 report.
