St. Michael-Albertville High School standout Mitch McKee added another title to his ever-growing resume today, as he topped defending national champion Tyler Lamont of Utah in the 132-pound Greco-Roman style wrestling national championships held at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.
McKee, a two-time state championship wrestler for the Knights, has had an outstanding season on the national circuit, taking the 132-pound title in the Folkstyle Nationals back in April and the Junior Greco title in May, where he also took a national title in freestyle wrestling (the kind common to high school mats).
Eden Prairie High School standout Ben Brancale, who topped Jake Allar of STMA for the 138-pound state championship, won in the 138-pound Greco final at the Fargodome in the following match. McKee and Brancale will be teammates at the University of Minnesota, with Brancale starting this fall and McKee, who committed to the Gophers back when he was a sophomore, joining the maroon in gold in 2016.
