The STMA United Soccer club kicked off it’s opening week of games last week with great results for multiple teams. This season, STMA United boasts 34 traveling teams ages 8-18. Highlights from week 1 of the 2015 Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) season are below:
u8 Girls Gold – Coy (Cheetahs)
This has been a very busy week for the Cheetahs! It started with Greta D getting player of the month honors for the STMA United Soccer Club. The team then had a friendly scrimmage with the other STMA super u8 team coached by Tim Dorland. It was a great opportunity for the girls to “go live” versus a new opponent plus work on some new skills (corner kicks, goal kicks, team formation, etc) for this age group.
The following weekend the team traveled to Lindstrom for the Chisago Lakes preseason tournament. Although storms cut their playing time short, the girls fought hard for both of their games against Lakes United and Centennial.
After that busy week, MYSA league play started with a trip up to Monticello for a match against the River Eagles. The team played hard and gave a fantastic effort.
Great way to kick off the season!
u11 Girls C2 – Couture
The u11 girls c2 team coached by Steve Couture played in the Blaine Breakout tournament this past weekend and took 2nd place overall. Brooklyn, Ashlyn, Ava Z, Ashley, Kylee & Maddie all scored in the tournament and were helped out by some great defense. The teams goalkeeper, Kendyl, did a fantastic job defending the goal to help the team to their 2nd place finish.
Great job girls!
u13 Girls c3 – Fairburn
The u13 girls c3 team, coached by John Fairburn, started the season very strong and looks to keep on rolling this week. The team took 2nd place in their age group at the Blaine Breakout tournament by tying Green Bay (0-0) & Maplebrook (0-0) and defeating Two Harbors (1-0) in pool play. They then fought hard in the championship before losing 1-0 in extra time to Green Bay.
League play kicked off for the team on May 5th with a match-up with Three-Rivers. The u13’s came out quickly and won the game 5-0 behind some timely scoring and tough defense.
Through five matches for the team in this early season, the girls have given up zero goals in regulation time. That’s right, ZERO. Behind a stellar back line of defenders, Alice M has made save after save as the teams go to keeper. The only goal surrendered came on an excellently struck ball in extra time of the Championship of the Blaine tournament. A hard fought back and forth match between two well matched opponents.
Well done girls. Well done.
u15 Girls c3 – Hett
The U15 C3 team started off with a thrilling game 1 of their regular season. They were down by one to Edina until the last 30 seconds of the game when Gianna scored her first goal of the season to tie up the game. After 90 minutes of play, the score ended up 1-1, ensuring STMA would get at least 1 point in the standings.
Great Job Girls!
