STMA Rotary Club is pleased to announce that St. Michael-Albertville High School juniors Madelyn Jesser, Samuel Wolseth and Madison Smiley have been named Rotary Students of the Month for April.
Madelyn is the daughter of Dave and Barb Jesser of St. Michael. She has received an extensive list of awards including A honor roll in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14; five Student of the Trimester awards, the Courtesy and Respect Award and multiple Academic Excellence Awards and academic letters. She was named Student of the Year in 2012-13. She is active and award-winning in track and field, cross-country and weightlifting. She also participates in intramural volleyball, National Honor Society, STMA Freshman Connections and a Catholic Girls Group. She plans to study accounting and become a CPA.
Samuel is the son of Carrie and Tim Wolseth of Albertville. He has been on the A honor roll seven times and is active in wrestling and weightlifting. He plans to study engineering in college.
Madison is the daughter of Cari Smiley and Todd Smiley of Albertville. She has been awarded an academic letter and swimming letter. She is involved in ski club, swimming, lifeguarding, Youth Matters tutoring, Freshman Connections, Student Ambassadors, the North Memorial Junior Volunteer Program, Special Olympics and Polar Plunge. She plans to major in a social science.
“Rotary is very proud to recognize Madelyn, Samuel and Madison as students of the month,” said Kevin Lenz, STMA Rotary Club Community Service Chairman. “These young people have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and athletics, and represent the service above self ideals of Rotary. We wish them all the best.”
The STMA Rotary Club honors students of the month during each month of the school year. The awards are given during the students’ junior year so they may include them on college applications and scholarship forms. Rotary Students of the Month are selected by STMA’s homeroom teachers. Rotary Students of the Month must demonstrate an interest in their community, have personal accomplishments or achievements, show respect to themselves and others, show a passion for “Service Above Self” and must be drug/alcohol free and cannot have committed a crime.
