Homeroom teachers at STMA High School are always on the lookout for exceptional eleventh-grade students to recommend for St. Michael Albertville’s Rotary Student of the Month program. Local Rotarians select students each month of the school year who embody their motto of “service above self,” with the focus on students in their junior year so the honor can be included in college applications.
The local Rotary club has chosen to honor Jordan Mlsna and Marisa Ornat as their October Students of the Month.
Jordan, daughter of Tim Mlsna and Julie Mlsna, participates in weightlifting, cross country, student council for six consecutive years, golf, and as a wrestling manager. She was recognized as Student of the Trimester her freshman year and has placed in weightlifting competitions. Jordan recently represented the Knights in an extremely positive manner when she stopped running during a cross country race to come to the aid of an opposing runner who was suffering a medical emergency. Jordan would like to join the Marine Corps after graduation.
Marisa is the daughter of Alisa and Chuck Ledoux and is an active member of the STMA community. She has been awarded a letter in choir and band and is also a section leader and member of the Vivace choir board. Marisa has participated in the fall musical, weightlifting, track & field, Vivace and Sirens choir, as well as her church’s worship team. Marisa is considering colleges with strong music education and language programs.
“Rotary is very proud to recognize Jordan and Marisa as students of the month,” said Scott Krause, STMA Rotary Club President. “They have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and represent the service-above-self ideals of Rotary. We wish them a successful future.”
