In a somber statement released this morning, Concordia University at St. Paul announced the death of a St. Michael native who was studying communications and an accomplished lacrosse athlete at the school.
“The Concordia University, St. Paul community mourns a tragic loss of life. We grieve the passing of junior communications major, Tia Zachman, a student-athlete on the women’s lacrosse team. CSP Ministry staff and counseling services are available to the campus community.
The university asks for thoughts and prayers for her family, friends, teammates, and classmates during this difficult time.
President Ries asks you to join him in expressing our deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and cared for Tia and everyone she loved.
CSP will provide information when it becomes available about funeral arrangements and an on-campus memorial observance.”
Zachman was a beloved student and athlete at St. Michael-Albertville High School. A three-sport athlete for the Knights, she succeeding in earning letters in lacrosse, track & field and softball. She was named the Knights’ Rookie of the Year in lacrosse and softball in her prep career. Tia was perhaps best known as a softball player and was named All-Mississippi 8, team MVP and Miss Offense in the sport.
