Three candidates for Albertville City Council combined campaigning with charity over the final push to Election Day.
Residents of Albertville showed remarkable generosity in recent days, donating items from their home cupboards to a local food shelf. Current members of the Albertville city council went door-to-door with their families asking neighbors to contribute.
“It’s become a tradition,” said Albertville Mayor Jillian Hendrickson, who began the practice during her first campaign. “Our residents always step up. It’s inspiring.”
Council member Walter Hudson wasn’t sure what to expect on his first time out. “You’re catching people off-guard at their homes, asking for food… they come back with a grocery bag full of cans.”
Rob Olson said the experience shows a contrast between the tone of today’s political rhetoric and the enduring spirit of local community. “We still show up for each other,” the two-term council member said.
The combined haul from the three Albertville city council members will be delivered to the Hanover food shelf. Each seeks re-election this Tuesday, November 6th.
