One of the fastest-growing counties in Minnesota is asking its residents to help plan for the way it will move in the future.
Wright County is eyeing updates to its long range transportation plan. As urban centers such as St. Michael, Otsego, Buffalo and Delano see housing booming again, every area is in need of road and bridge work, among other highway improvements.

The Wright County Long Range Transportation Plan is being updated to prepare the County’s transportation system for continued growth and corresponding travel needs over the next 20+ years. The Plan will also update the Northeast Wright County Subarea Transportation Plan and incorporate it into the overall County Plan. The Plan will provide an analysis of existing conditions, update transportation goals and objectives, and outline a future transportation system plan, including policies to implement future projects/improvements. It will provide an implementable framework for future policy development and partnerships. The Plan will address six key planning objectives throughout the process:
- Identification of local concerns
- A transportation system response to growth (urban and rural)
- Integration of all modes (pedestrian, bicyclists, freight, and air)
- Enhance multi-jurisdictional cooperation
- Identify system improvements and preservation needs
- Develop a cooperative investment plan
The County Highway Department was at Albertville Friendly City Days earlier this month, and held an open house on the project Wednesday, June 20 in Buffalo. They will be hitting the southern and eastern ends of the county in Howard Lake and Waverly at city celebrations there over the next two weeks.
