The Albertville Royalty Program is looking for candidates to serve as Miss Albertville for the upcoming year. Eligible candidates must be residents of Albertville, St. Michael, or Otsego and must be between the ages of 17 and 19.
The program is also currently seeking Junior Candidates, boys and girls currently in first grade at one of the STMA-area schools or homeschools.
The Royal Court—Miss Albertville, two princesses, and the junior court—will be crowned in June as part of the annual Friendly City Days celebration and join a long-standing Albertville tradition that goes back more than 40 years.
In addition to serving the Albertville community, the Royal Court represents the city of Albertville in various parades and events throughout Minnesota as well as at the Minneapolis Aquatennial. At the end of her reign, each senior Royal Court member receives a scholarship toward her continued education.
The royalty program isn’t all parades and tiaras, though. Through the recently established “Beyond the Crown” initiative, members of the Royal Court spend time each month volunteering with nonprofit organizations both locally and beyond.
Event coordinator Alyssa Gallagher, who helped to launch Beyond the Crown, shared what the program means to candidates and to the community. “We spend time each month leaving our crowns, sashes, dresses, and titles at home to selflessly volunteer time to those who need it…It is our goal upon completion of each year’s reign to leave Albertville better than we found it in one way or another and enrich the lives of as many deserving people as possible.”
The deadline to apply for the 2018 candidate program is Saturday, April 7. For complete eligibility information and to submit an application, please contact albertville.royalty@gmail.com.
Albertville Royalty candidate orientation is currently scheduled for Sunday, April 8.
