A recent St. Michael-Albertville High School graduate died during a skiing outing near Wabasha, Minnesota, over the weekend.
Bethany Becker, 19, a member of the Class of 2017, was killed when she failed to navigate the bottom of a slope at the Coffee Mill Ski Area. She was attempting the run on Fall Hill, which authorities who responded to the scene said was one of the harder runs at the ski facility.
Becker was a member of the STMA cross-country team. She was a novice skier, according to witnesses. A Rochester, Minnesota television station said authorities reported she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
First responders were able to get Becker off the ski hill and were attempting to get her to an awaiting air-ambulance, which was set to take her to Mayo-St Mary Hospital in Rochester. She, unfortunately, died during transportation due to the injuries sustained in the collision.
