They’re just a couple of months away from ending their year-long reign, but the Albertville Royalty family is still hard at work, giving back to the Twin Cities area.
Here’s a report from the program about a special day at the Ronald McDonald House at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.
“Since November 2010 the Ronald McDonald House – Children’s Minneapolis has been serving families with seriously ill children in Minnesota by providing a home-away-from-home. In order to do this, countless volunteers provide a variety of different services inside the Ronald McDonald house and throughout the state. This past October a few of our Albertville Royalty volunteered at their “The Greatest Gift is Love Gala” raising money which touched our hearts but our senior court families were given the greatest opportunity earlier this month.
The Ronald McDonald house has a program called “Cooks For Kids” where after a long day at the hospital, families of the children receiving care are provided with a “home-away-from-home cooked meal.” Groups around the twin cities plan, purchase, prepare and serve a meal in hopes of providing a bright spot in the day of the families there, and that is exactly what we did.
The Albertville Royalty Program provided the supplies for the senior court and their parents to prepare homemade Chicken Fettuccini, Italian salad, dinner rolls, and cupcakes along with a lemonade and water option. We spent just under three hours in the kitchen, which is located in the center of the house, not only preparing and cooking our meal but interacting with families and kids as they spent their downtime there. As the clock struck 6:00p.m. a stream of people filed in, smiles on most of their faces and families in tow to be dished up a dinner plate by our court and families. While some choose a to-go box and hurried back to their rooms or to the bedside of their loved ones many stayed in the house to eat dinner. It was there, while providing dinner, we once again got the opportunity to visit with the families, hear a few of their stories, and see pictures of their little heroes. We served over 130 + meals with several people coming back for seconds during the 90 minutes provided for dinner. Upon dinner time wrapping up, we cleaned up, tidied up the kitchen and labeled the leftovers so families that were unable to make it during the dinner hour are able to come at their convenience and reheat our provided meal.
It is opportunities like this, beyond the crown, that touch our hearts and leaves lasting memories for our court and families. Thank you to the City of Albertville and our sponsors for donating to our program so we are able to provide opportunities like this on behalf of our friendly city.”
