St. Michael-Albertville High School grad and current resident, Chas Betts (left), performs tonight as Chad Gable in the WWE SmackDown Live at the Xcel Energy Center.
St. Michael-Albertville wrestling phenom, Chas Betts, may have hung up his STMA wrestling singlet when he graduated in 2005, but tonight he’ll be wrestling again in Minnesota. But instead of on a mat, this time his match takes place in the ring.
After competing in the 2012 Olympics in London, where he placed ninth in the Greco-Roman 185 pound division, Betts signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2013. He has been in the ring with WWE ever since, where he works for their SmackDown brand under the name Chad Gable. He and his tag team partner, Jason Jordan, are known as American Alpha.
American Alpha will be in the ring at the Xcel Energy Center tonight, Feb. 28, for the WWE SmackDown Live event. The event begins at 6:45 p.m. Television viewers can see the show on USA from 7-9 p.m. tonight, and tickets to the event are still available.
Betts moved back to St. Michael with his wife and daughter last year. He had a busy line-up of local appearances this week in advance of SmackDown Live’s first Minnesota show, appearing on WCCO TV, 93X Radio, KFAN, Fox TV and Fox Channel 9.
