A Wind Chill Advisory for much of Minnesota remains in place through Tuesday afternoon, as the Arctic blast hitting the state since Saturday hangs on, according to the National Weather Service.
And while that hasn’t created a ton of problems for residents experiencing the first true cold snap of this record-setting 2015-2016 winter, a quick burst of snow spreading across the region tonight right on time for the evening rush hour might.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has forecast a one-inch snowfall for Monday night that will arrive in the Twin Cities area between 3 and 4 p.m. today and linger for much of the evening commute. The snow won’t be too significant in measure, but will slicken up roads that are frozen over thanks to several days now of below zero or single digit above zero temperatures.
As for Monday night and Tuesday – it’s best to stay indoors if at all possible. Temperatures tonight are expected to dip down between 7 and 10 below zero. That, combined with winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour will create frigid wind chill factors forecast at 20 to 30 below.
We should climb into the teens by Wednesday, with temps in the 20s closing out the week, but the weekend will get frigid once again, with temperatures during the day on Saturday and Sunday in the single digits and lows overnight below zero.
