The St. Michael-Albertville School District and Wright County Sheriff’s Office are teaming together today to provide additional security at STMA High School.
According to an e-mail sent via the district’s communications network, Blackboard, by Principal Bob Driver, the tightened security stems from a threat made by a student during an incident at the building after school hours on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Driver, emphasized, via the e-mail, that at “no time was there any reference to a weapon.” Rumors to the contrary had been spreading via social networks and other communication, Driver said.
The school district, in cooperation with the WCSO, will go into a “secure” mode, which will have more security with student movement during the heightened security. School doors to the outside are always locked, so no change in procedure will happen for people coming into the school. They will be be forced to buzz into the building and check in at the school’s main office when coming into the building.
WCSO has standard procedures it implements with schools, including ISD 728 buildings, as well as other districts around the county that are within its jurisdiction, during such incidents.
“As a school district we will always prioritize the safety of our students and staff in our buildings,” Driver concluded.
Details of the threat were not made available. NWCT will have more on this incident as it develops.
