Asphalt crews have laid down fresh tar on 57th Street in Albertville, as the summer construction on the city’s through road in the south central area of town continues.
City Administrator Adam Nafstad told North Wright County Today Thursday, Sept. 17 that the construction project is on track for an October opening, with the road area possibly being ready prior to that completion date.
Crews, now, are working on curb and gutter along the street, along with water main and manhole placements. Work is also beginning on the new St. Albert’s Catholic Church parking lot, which was part of an agreement struck between the city and the church’s leaders.
Removal of power lines and cable lines – via burial – will also improve sight lines along a road that is at the heart of Albertville – connecting “old” downtown with County Road 19.
“It’s kind of at the heart of Friendly City Days there, so making the road look a bit nicer and wider makes it easier to navigate every summer,” Nafstad said
Work on the project should wrap up before frost, weather permitting. The cost of the project is around $800,000 for the City of Albertville, and approximately $176,000 for the church’s new parking lot.
County 37/70th Street Continues
The reconstruction and reconfiguration of 70th Street and Wright County 37 in Otsego is continuing its three-mile odyssey this fall, as gravel and sand have been laid down in much of the roundabout area where the two roads meet.
The construction is going to make 70th Street a main connector road between Highway 100 and Wright County Highway 19 when all is said and done, some time in 2016.
For now, according to Brent Larson, engineer from Hakanson Anderson, who is leading the project, things are on track despite all of the wet weather this summer.
Detours are still in place for traffic between those two roads, with vehicles routed to County 19 and County Road 39 to get around the closure.
