A Wisconsin man wanted in connection with an attempted murder there was tracked down and brought into custody by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with other departments, with an arrest made in northern Wright County Tuesday, July 14.
According to the WCSO, at approximately 4:10pm members of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team, Criminal Investigations Unit, and Special Investigations Unit conducted a search warrant at 751 Isabella Ave in Clearwater. The search warrant was conducted as part of an investigation into a shooting that occurred in the City of Bloomer, Wisconsin.
Stephen Nathaniel Newman, 31 of Chetek, Wisconsin, was arrested at the scene without incident on a Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office warrant for attempted homicide. Newman was booked into the Wright County Jail, where is awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.
According to the Eau Claire Times Ledger, Newman, 31, was the final suspect who hadn’t been arrested for involvement in the shooting of 29-year-old Dustin Wallsch of Colfax, Wisconsin. According to police, Wallsch was in his vehicle when a bullet shattered the back window on the driver’s side, injuring him. Two other Chetek men were arrested and are in custody in county jails – Tyrel Zurcher and Tim Johnson.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by members of the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and detectives from the Baron County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin.
