A Big Lake motorcyclist is recovering from injuries today sustained in a motorcycling accident at the intersection of Highway 241 and Naber Avenue Northeast in St. Michael around 8:15 a.m. this morning.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 29-year-old Ashley Garcia of Big Lake was broadsided by the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Impala as he attempted to make a left turn on his Honda motorcycle from southbound Naber onto the highway, heading east. The Impala, which was headed north, broadsided the driver, who was wearing protective gear.
Witnesses said the light at the intersection was turning yellow, according to the MSP report. The motorcycle driver though he had time to clear the intersection, while the driver of the car, 70-year-old Diana Peters of Rogers, thought she could cross over 241 and continue north on Naber before the light turned red.
Several people assisted the rider at the scene, witnesses added. Peters was not injured. Garcia was transported to a local hospital, but injuries sustained were not considered life-threatening according to the MSP report. The rider was able to, with assistance, walk with the bike to the side of the road and get out of the intersection after the crash.
