Monticello’s newest festival with the fitting name makes a frosty entrance during this Arctic week, as the Frostbite Days Celebration kicks off Friday night.
There will be events throughout the weekend of Jan. 9 t0 11, including snowmobile swap meets, a vintage snowmobile race, ice fishing contests for both adults and kids and snow bowling.
The week kicked off today with the first clue for the Frostbite Days Medallion Hunt. You can follow the clues here, released daily.
Then, the weekend gets off to its start Friday night when the area next to Moon Motorsports, off of Chelsea Avenue, will play host to the “Kick Off Party,” beginning at 5 p.m. There will be live music from Outside Recess in a heated tent, a radar run track under the big lights, food, beer, and the medallion hunt prizes will be awarded.
Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., it’s all about the “sleds.”

Also, there’s a “snow bowling” extravaganza, starting at 11 a.m., at River City Extreme.
Sunday, it’s time to hit the ice. The kids’ fishing contest kicks off at 10 a.m., with the “main” contest starting at noon. All rules, regulations and classes can be found on the Frostbite Days website.
The tourney will be held on Bertram Lake, part of the county’s newest regional park.
