An icy, cold blast from the past – remember the start of 2014? – is helping usher out the current year.
Wind Chill Advisories are in effect for at least a portion of today as an Arctic blast hits the Twin Cities area, with actual temperatures in the single digits below zero this morning and winds up to 10 to 15 mph making it feel 20 to 30 degrees “below the doughnut.”
Temps are expected to moderate tonight through tomorrow, but lows tonight are still expected to dip below zero. Wednesday’s high is set for 14 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, with the New Year kicking off with temps in the 20s on Thursday and Friday, before a good chance of snow comes to the area again on Saturday.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to bottom out again as the kids head back to school on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, but nothing like 2014, when temperatures in the teens to 20 below zero forced school to be canceled the first week back from Christmas break.
