This week, we’re kicking off (pun intended) our North Wright County Today Football Challenge, brought to you by St. Michael-Albertville Football Academy, with a taste of homecoming.
A pair of local schools – St. Michael-Albertville and Monticello, welcome Mississippi 8 opponents to their home fields for the big homecoming football game.
And, rising above the controversy that is Adrian Peterson, the beloved Vikings get a tough opponent on the road this week, as they cruise down to the Bayou to take on the New Orleans Saints. Meanwhile the Comeback Pack, who survived an 0-2 start thanks to a terrible timeout call by the New York Jets coaching staff, get their first division opponent in Detroit this week.
Jeff Swenson has no peer so far, picking all 10 games right both weeks. He’s our leader in the clubhouse, by far, with two wins under his belt. Now it’s up to someone to dethrone the champ with this week’s slate of games, which include a good-old-fashioned college rivalry, the Knights and Magic at home and an “unexpected” fall classic down in Owatonna.
Here goes:
Schoemer’s picks for the week:
St. Michael AND Monticello roll to homecoming wins.
Owatonna staves off West with a stout defense at home.
Alabama survives a scare from Florida. Nebraska holds serve at home against the ‘Canes, and the Tigers shock the world by getting a big lead in the first half and holding off a Jameis Winston comeback to beat the ‘Noles.
In pro action, the Saints roll, Buffalo moves to a shocking 3-0 by beating the Chargers, Philly holds serve at home and the Lions at home are too much for Green Bay.
Last week: 2 wrong for Schoemer, missing on the Virginia/Louisville and UGA/SC games (the Dawgs were robbed). But I had it right with NDSU’s Game Day crowd!
Rules: All games must be selected. Only one entry per person can be submitted (they will be screened). Ties will be decided by points in the “Game of the Week.” Be sure to click “submit” and include your email, or entry will be invalid.
