More than 20 barbecue chefs are ready to challenge your taste buds, and each other, this Saturday at the Colonial Mall (400 Central Ave. NE) in St. Michael for the Second Annual Smoke N’ Wright Barbecue Contest.
Entrants are competing in categories that include pork, chicken, beef cuts and pizza. Food will be prepared throughout the day in front of Sadie’s Coffee House and Midwest Rubs as Kimberly Walden and her partner, Brownie, welcome participants from around the North Wright County area.
“We had a lot of fun last year, and think this year is kind of where we turn the corner,” Brownie, who operates the Midwest Rubs side of the business, said. “Great food, great music and some really good people. Hopefully, this year, we get the good weather, too.”
Part of the weekend includes the St. Michael Fire Department Chili Challenge. SMFD has challenged fire halls from around the area to compete in a chili cook-off. Brownie and Kimberly have made local fire departments the main beneficiary of this weekend’s event – as it donates proceeds from the cook-off and barbecue contest to the local fire departments.
The Chili Challenge is still in need of both contestants and judges, and the barbecue contest is in need of judges as well. Form more information, call 763-497-1766
Bluze Fuze, a local band, is set to play a four hour set from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
