Obstetrician/Gynecologist Jennifer Schlies, DO, joins the Buffalo Clinic on Tuesday, August 5.
“We’re very excited to welcome Dr. Schlies to our medical staff and community,” says Douglas Hanson, CEO of Buffalo Clinic. “Her skills and expertise are a strong addition to our talented team of physicians.”
Schlies received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University and completed her residency at Mercy Health in Muskegon, Michigan, where she was chief resident.
“I absolutely love delivering babies,” Schlie saids. “There’s no better feeling in the world than when I place a newborn on a mom’s stomach and watch mom and dad look at their baby for first time—it’s incredible.”
Originally from Minneapolis, Schlies chose Buffalo Clinic to be close to family and friends while practicing in a small town. Schlies followed in her grandfather’s footsteps, a retired OB/Gyn who practiced in a small community.
“I love the feeling of a small town, from the parades and close knit neighborhoods to the personal sense of community,” says Schlies. “I completed a residency in Muskegon, Michigan, which is slightly bigger than Buffalo but experienced first-hand how the doctors are viewed as leaders in the community. I was also looking for a smaller practice that allows you to care for moms throughout their pregnancy and be there for the delivery in addition to providing primary and gynecological care for women of all ages.”
As a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), Schlies brings a patient-centered, holistic, hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating illness and injury. “I was taught to think of the body as a unit of mind, body, and spirit. Everything is interconnected so I’m not just caring for a person physically, but understand they have emotional needs too.”
Schlies lives in Monticello with her cat, Snickers. She loves the outdoors, hiking, biking, and gardening. She’s also very environmentally conscious, with recycling being a top priority. She enjoys traveling, baking, going to farmers’ markets and picking her own produce.
