Following in the footsteps of recent honorees including longtime Mayor Ron Klecker and Albertville Lions mainstay LeRoy Berning, the Albertville Friendly City Days committee has named the Most Outstanding Citizens for the 2014 annual celebration.
This year’s honorees are “any and all returning Veterans,” according to Berning, who has headed up the organization of the citywide celebration each year for nearly the past decade.
“We want to honor all of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and have made it home,” he said. “So, we plan to have a couple of special things planned for any and all of our residents who have served.”
The largest honor will come during the annual Albertville Friendly City Days Grand Parade, set for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 15. All Veterans are invited to come to the “staging” area for the parade, along Barthel Industrial Boulevard (near the old Sunoco) and line up behind the American Legion Float and Color Guard along 59th Street. Veterans will walk with members of the Legion and VFW, behind the Color Guard, as the Most Outstanding Citizens, in this year’s parade.
Secondly, a plaque and memorial will be set up at the St. Michael American Legion, located at the corner of Central Avenue and First Street Northeast in St. Michael, for all of the Most Outstanding Citizens.
