The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting that a pavement failure in the westbound lane of Interstate 94 at Monticello is clogging traffic all the way back to Albertville.
According to reports, the pavement in the Monticello construction zone between County Road 18 and Highway 25 has failed in several areas, shutting down one of the westbound lanes. That’s creating a glut of “lake” traffic as people head out of the Twin Cities metro for the Memorial Day weekend.
MnDOT isn’t expecting a fix soon, so they’re recommending drivers use a different route to head west. Looking at traffic cameras, the freeway does open up at Hasty, or even the Highway 24/Interstate 94 interchange in Clearwater. Multiple routes, including County Highway 75 or U.S. Highway 10, can help drivers get around the jam.
