It wasn’t what commuter Cody Shirley expected to see Monday afternoon on his way home from St. Michael.
Shirley, who told media outlets he commutes from AAA Striping in St. Michael to Hugo each afternoon, saw a red Dodge Neon floating in a pond near Veit in Rogers, along Interstate 94.
Inside was a 45-year-old woman, who wasn’t quite sure what to do next after her car had apparently left the road and wound up in the wetlands.
Shirley stopped, got out and entered the pond in his close, taking time to remove his shoes and toss his wallet ashore, according to KARE 11 News.
He was able to pull the woman through her window and get her out before water filled the engine.
Workers from nearby Veit used a forklift and a jon boat to recuse to car.
