St. Michael native and current Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty announced Monday, March 31 he will be seeking a second term as the leader of the Wright County’s law enforcement office.

Hagerty, who served as a St. Michael City Council member for three terms and is also involved in civic groups around his hometown, including the youth football program, is a lifelong resident here. During his tenure as Wright County Sheriff, he’s invited both the media and public to tour a “more open and informational” department, and helped spearhead a revamp of the county’s website.
“The more information we have out there in the public’s hands, the more you build trust between the department and your deputies,” Hagerty said. “When you do that, you can do a better job of serving your communities.”
Hagerty has been a member of the department since he graduated the academy and was hired in 1985. He has worked his way up from deputy to captain and ultimately served as assistant to former Chief Gary Miller until Miller announced his retirement in 2010.
Hagerty became the 27 sheriff in the county’s 155 years back in January 2011, running unopposed in the 2010 election.
County Attorney Tom Kelly also recently announced he will be seeking a fifth term as Wright County’s top legal representative, as well.
Kelly stated via press release that he has served the county for 30 years, the last 16 as the county attorney. He has run unopposed his last two elections.
He and his wife, Holly, are 34-year members of the Buffalo community and have two grown children.
