Homeroom teachers at St. Michael-Albertville High School are always on the lookout for exceptional eleventh-grade students to recommend for STMA’s Rotary Student of the Month program. Local Rotarians select students each month of the school year who embody their motto of “service above self,” with the focus on students in their junior year so the honor can be included in college applications.
For November, the local Rotary club has given this distinction to Chloe Benson, Elizabeth Frelich and Cobin Szymanski.
Chloe is the daughter of Holly and Abe Benson. She has received all-conference academic honors three times as well as having achieved the position of section leader in Marching Band and Concert Band. Chloe participates in swim & dive, mock trial, band, and marching band. Chloe has plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College, North Dakota State University, or the University of Minnesota to study Applied Mathematics.
Elizabeth, daughter of Angela and Toby Frelich, is very involved in the STMA community. She has received academic letter honors her freshman and sophomore years, was acknowledged with the STMA Volleyball Coaches Award her sophomore year, and was a recipient of the Technology Education and Engineering Department award. Elizabeth participates in volleyball, basketball, National Honor Society, ALIV, breakfast club, Freshmen Mentors, and CORE Team and camp leadership through her church. She would like to attend North Dakota State University to work towards an engineering degree.
Cobin is the son of Joel Szymanski and Kim Szymanski. Cobin has achieved Top 80 honors at the NSDA Nationals as well as All State Debate. He was recently a Courtesy & Respect Award winner and Student of the Year. Cobin is active in debate, speech, STUCO, EKO, National Honor Society, and Freshmen Connections. After high school, he would like to study Humanities at a college in the northeast.
“Rotary is very proud to recognize Chloe, Elizabeth, and Cobin as students of the month,” said Scott Krause, STMA Rotary Club President. “They have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and represent the service above self ideals of Rotary. We wish them a successful future.”
Congratulations to the November winners!
