Everyone once in a while, you could get a glimpse of Mauer on Highway 25, or Chelsea Road, or elsewhere in Monticello as his family made their rounds.
Goggles. Tongue. Brown and white fur. Drool.
The St. Bernard was a community favorite.
While known for his car rides, Mauer was a hero in his short time here on earth. The pup was a therapy dog, visiting cancer patients at New River Medical Center and Stellis Health. He was also a favorite at the local libraries, including the Great River branches in Monticello and St. Michael.
Mauer lost his own battle with cancer late last month. He was just 7 years old.
North Wright County Today did a feature on Mauer back in 2016. You can read it here: “Need a Reason to Smile? Meet Mauer, the St. Bernard”
Check out this amazing feature by WCCO – CBS4.
Our regards to the Nowacki family, who shared their dog with so many over the years.
