Fire crews were called to the scene of a semi-tractor on fire around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 after the rig was engulfed in flames on the eastbound side of Interstate 94.
Crews were able to knock down the blaze, but the rig and trailer were a total loss.
Witnesses said flames shot from the top of the rig, but no one was hurt. Several motorists stopped to offer assistance.
Interstate 94 eastbound was closed from about 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., then re-opened to one lane of traffic. Major delays were seen from Monticello and points west as traffic tried to navigate eastward.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the driver of the 2003 Kenworth Semi is Trinity Teague of Mantorville, Minnesota. He did not require any medical treatment.
