The voter-approved expansion of STMA’s athletic facilities opened one of its crown jewels over the fall, when the St. Michael-Albertville Knights soccer and football teams started a new era at the STMA Stadium on high school grounds.
The last two jewels opened this week, as the community celebrated the opening of “The Dome” an inflatable facility over the main, turf field at the high school stadium, and the new second sheet of ice at the STMA Hockey Arena in Albertville.
The dome, which was inflated prior to the Thanksgiving break, opened to the public on Monday, Nov. 26 with an open house sponsored by the school district. The night featured games, inflatables and a tour of the facility, which includes changing areas and an off field meeting room.
The STMA Arena second sheet – one of the more contentious pieces of the 2017 bond – opened to varsity hockey Tuesday, Nov. 27 as the Knights, last year’s Section 8AA Champions, welcomed two-time Class A State Tournament qualifier Monticello High.
The final pieces of the activities puzzle will open this spring, as STMA opens a new baseball and softball complex to the east of the high school.
Additions to STMA High School classrooms and the Albertville Primary School – also part of the $30 million bond – were opened at the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
