The two-time defending State A Champion Clay Target Team can add an even more impressive title to its resume – National Champions.
The St. Michael-Albertville team captured the first ever USA High School Clay Target League’s national championships in Mason, Michigan last weekend, nailing 968 of 1,000 targets to bring home the title.
Lane Berning, Jake Borgen, Kyle Dupont, Garrett Mourning and Will Rahne outlasted 174 other teams to take first, just a month after winning the Minnesota State Championship in Prior Lake.
Other Minnesota programs at the national championships finishing in the Top 5 included second place Delano, New Prague in third and St. Peter in fifth place. New Prague’s Woodrow Glazer outlasted a pair of competitors in the final, shooting 200 of 200 targets, to win the individual national title. More than 1,400 shooters participated in the event.
