The St. Michael City Council approved an offer last Tuesday from EffectUs Athletics to purchase a 1.6-acre property at the west end of the one-way pair in downtown St. Michael.
According to Community Development Director, Marc Weigle, EffectUs plans to construct an 8,000- to 12,000-square-foot building on the property. Weigle gave an update on the purchase to the St. Michael Economic Development board at its regular January meeting.
EffectUs Athletics, a personal fitness and coaching center that includes CrossFit STMA, has operated in a smaller facility near the intersection of Highway 241 and Naber Avenue since fall 2013.
The goal of the programs at EffectUs Athletics is to deliver a fitness that is broad, general, and inclusive. The EffectUs Athletics business Facebook page states, “Our specialty is not specializing. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.”
EffectUs Athletics owner and coach, Jackie Jensen, told city council that the business hopes to begin construction on the new facility this spring.
Weigle says the city still needs to work out specific details of the purchase agreement with EffectUs Athletics before the land purchase can be officially approved by the council.
