Main Street Farmer Eatery has been open just a little more than six months and the community response has been overwhelming. “We’ve been thrilled by the enthusiasm from the community for a fresh, made from scratch, kitchen approach to locally sourced food,” owner Jonathan Campion said in a recent interview.
The community’s newest hot spot has made a name for itself in publications such as Minnesota Monthly and Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine with foodies traveling from all over the metro to dine there.
Changes ahead include a brand new menu, which launched this week. “Some staples will stay but we’ll have more vegan and gluten free options,” Campion continued explaining that diners can expect that 70 percent of the menu will change seasonally. The next menu change will come in late July, when corn season begins.
Main Street Farmer also launched an a la carte Sunday brunch recently that according to Campion has become very popular, with both Easter and Mother’s Day turning out completely booked.
Another change coming to the restaurant is a brand new patio and outdoor seating. “The new patio opens Tuesday and will start with 40 seats, but will have room for more,” Campion said.
While prime dining hours are typically booked, walk-ins are accepted and both the patio and bar will continue to be first come, first serve.
Main Street Farmer is looking towards doing an expansion in the building later this year but hasn’t quite identified how that will look yet. In the meantime, the biggest challenge for Campion and his team is staff. While currently there are between 45-50 on staff, Campion explained that the restaurant could do more with more staff.
“We have a good team right now but I’d like to develop a stronger team so we can do more- things like educational dining experiences, chef table experiences, where we can share where the food comes from.” The restaurant currently posts job opportunities on Facebook.
New this summer, Main Street Farmer will have an old vegetable cart outside selling watermelon and lemonade and local kids can sign up to work the cart with the profits going to local charity. Details will be posted on Main Street Farmer’s Facebook page in the next several weeks.
