ORIGINAL POST: First responders from at least two sheriff’s departments and multiple fire departments are on the scene of an event in Big Lake Township, just across the river from Mississippi Drive and Swan Park in Monticello.
According to multiple reports, fire erupted at a residence along 180th Street Northeast sometime after 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 3. A house was visibly engulfed in flames, with fire reaching more than 20 feet high, according to photos.
Complicating response was ammunition in the home exploding, and reports of a gunman on scene, first on a dock near the Mississippi River and then in a nearby home.
The house was a total loss as cinders were sent flying across the river, carried by winds into Monticello. Shoppers at Target said they saw ash landing on cars in the parking lot.
As of 11 a.m. the scene was still unfolding.
