Local shoppers looking for a more unique shopping experience will soon have a new option in the area. A husband and wife team, Kyle and Jessica Gay, are busy putting the finishing touches on their new Brass Pocket Boutique, which will open its doors next week.
Brass Pocket Boutique will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, April 1, at 9175 Quaday Ave. in Otsego. Jessica said there would be specials and giveaways going on throughout the day, along with snacks, drinks and a temporary tattoo station run by her children.
The store has an array of items for sale, such as women and girl’s clothing, often with coordinating mother/daughter styles, shoes, jewelry, handbags, essential oils, bath products and accessories. Jessica said she finds products by attending a large number of whole sale shows, and she said a lot of the clothing vendors she has connected with have been Los Angeles-based.
Jessica had previously worked at boutique shop, and eventually the idea grew to have a shop of her own. That shop became Brass Pocket Boutique thanks to the inspiration of the 1979 Pretender’s song, Brass in Pocket. The Gay family has four children, three daughters and one son, and Jessica said the business has quickly become a whole family affair. She takes care of the product ordering and her husband does marketing and helps come up with ideas. Their children get in on the action, too.
“They love it,” Jessica said. “They come and help tag stuff and hang stuff up. My daughters are wearing a lot of the clothes on our website so it shows how it fits.
And then they go to school and tell their friends they are models,” she added with a laugh.
The store will be opened starting April 1. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
