It might not open its doors until August, and won’t welcome students until the start of the 2017-2018 academic year, but the new Elementary Education through Grade 8 building in Otsego rising on the western edge of that community officially begins its service to the public this week.
The Elk River area school district, ISD 728, will welcome future kindergarten students to Kindergarten Information Night, set for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the current Otsego Elementary School, located on the eastern side of Otsego.
Kindergarten students and families will get a rundown of the school plans, some information about kindergarten preparation and some additional data about Community Education services.
Following that, new Principal Kari Sampson will host all future Otsego E-8 families at the elementary school in Otsego for a “Meet and Greet.” Families – who were contacted by the district last month – will get an update on school discussion and talk about things ranging from curriculum to school colors and mascots.
The Meet and Greet is set for 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the school.
The E-8 will actually open with only students in kindergarten through sixth grade in 2017, adding seventh grade in 2018 and the full compliment of students in 2019. It will have early education programs from the first day of school next year.
Construction is slated to be completed shortly after the Fourth of July holiday, according to district sources and developers. Staff is currently being hired. Sampson was named principal early last month.
For those who can’t make the meet-and-greet, you can still weigh in on everything from the mascot and school colors to volunteering to serve on the steering committee.
Here’s some info:
The website for the new school is http://www.isd728.org/Otsego-E-8. You can also follow Sampson for developments on Twitter @OtsegoE8
A link to submit student information for prospective staff can be found here. Parents can update this form later, but it gives a sneak-peak at future E-8 kids for the teachers and staff. This is for FUTURE FAMILIES only.
Also, a Google form for mascot suggestions and colors can be found here. The school renderings do show some color patterns, but those are NOT indicative of what will eventually be found in the building. Again, only those attending the future school should weigh in on this form.
Finally, those who are living within the school boundaries and want to serve on a Steering Committee for the Otsego E-8 can express interest via this Google Form. Information must be submitted by Thursday, Feb. 16.
