St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West has been recognized as a 2016 Title I Reward School by the Minnesota Department of Education, a designation reserved for just a handful of middle schools in the state of Minnesota.
In fact, Reward Schools are among the top 15 percent of all Title I schools in Minnesota. They represent the highest performing Title I schools in demonstrating exceptional student outcomes and success in closing the achievement gap. The criteria includes test scores, academic performance and evidence in closing the education achievement gap between student designations as defined by testing groups.
This year just 103 schools are designated as Reward Schools. Education Commissioner, Brenda Cassellius said.
“By learning from schools like yours, we believe we can accelerate positive results and replicate your successes to help reduce achievement gaps among students,” Cassellius added. “I appreciate the hard work you do every day to ensure the students you serve are successful.”
Title I schools receive federal funds based upon low-income families which are used to support reading and math for struggling learners.
“Being a Reward School requires a commitment to make sure every student succeeds at a high level and a dedicated and skillful staff who meet the needs of diverse learners,” Superintendent Ann-Marie Foucault said.
This is the second time STMA Middle School West has earned this award.
