The state’s Primary Election arrives next week on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and there are officially 10 residents in the running to be elected to the ISD 728 School Board this fall.
For residents of Election District 2, the primary ballot will include a Special Election to fill a seat in that district left vacant by Jane Bunting. District 2 includes Ward 4 of Elk River, Rogers, Otsego, Ramsey, St. Michael and Albertville.
Elk River’s Jerry Jaker and Anthony Pietrzak Jr. join Rogers resident Gregg Peppin as candidates for that seat. The top vote-getter on Aug. 9 will earn the seat and take office on Aug. 22.
You can find more about these three men and their vision for ISD 728 on the Elk River Star News website, as they recently responded to a Q and A interview for the paper.
Moving on to the general primary, there are seven candidates for three at-large seats, including current board chair and incumbent Holly Thompson of Zimmerman.
The other six candidates are Gary Kowalkowski, Kristian Mortenson, and John Parker of Elk River; Joel Nelson of Ramsay; Andrew Kennedy of Otsego; and Christi Tullbane of Rogers.
These at-large bids will be subject to Tuesday’s primary, with six people moving on to the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
A note: Only those who reside within the District 2 Seat boundaries will see the Peppin/Jaker/Pietrzak race on the ballot. ALL ISD 728 residents will see the primary for the other seven candidates vying for the six spots on November’s ballot.
