Filing has now opened for at least a portion of the 2016 ISD 728 School Board election.
ISD 728, formerly known as the “Elk River Area” school district, includes Otsego and portion of St. Michael and Albertville north and east of Interstate 94.
The period to file for the open seat representing District 2, which will be elected during the State Primary on Aug. 9, is from May 17 through May 31.
The deadline to withdraw from the race, once filed, is June 2.
District 2 was held by former board chair Jan Bunting, who recently moved out of the district. The seat will be up for vote at the primary due to statewide election laws.
The 3 “at-large” seats that are up for election are those held by Dan Hunt, Sue Farber and chair Holly Thompson. Those seats will for sure be up for election in November, but a primary is possible here. Therefore, candidates from around the district can file during this open period. If six people file, a primary for those three open seats will be held on Aug. 9, with the top four vote recpients moving on to the general election.
Paperwork, fees and more information can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
Affidavits of Candidacy can be downloaded here and returned to the ISD 728 School District Office, 815 Highway 10, Elk River, Minnesota, 55330.
The filing fee for this office is $2.
