The St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club honors exceptional students each month of the school year with their Student of the Month program. The March honorees are juniors Maddie Gallagher and Jacob Rankila.
Maddie is the captain of the girls swim and dive team, two time All State swimmer, All-American consideration swimmer, A honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. In college, she hopes to major in biology and become a geneticist or other type of doctor. Maddie is the daughter of Tammy and Bill Gallagher of St. Michael.
Jacob is active in scouting and recently completed his Eagle Scout project. At work he was recently promoted to shift leader at Papa Murphy’s. Jacob loves the outdoors and plans to study wildland/wildlife law enforcement at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minnesota, before transferring to a four-year school to complete his education. He is the son of Dan and Lori Rankila of St. Michael.
Rotary’s Students of the Month are selected by the students’ homeroom teachers for demonstrating interest in the community, for having personal accomplishments and achievements, for showing respect to themselves and others, and for exhibiting a “service above self” mentality. Rotary’s Students of the Month are drug and alcohol free and haven’t committed any crimes.
