Rep. Eric Lucero met with Superintendent James Behle, Principal Andrew Merfeld, Assistant Principal Lynn Jennissen, teachers from the Site Council Executive Board, and students from the Student Council Executive Board on Monday to present a resolution from the House of Representatives honoring Middle School West for being named a Reward School.
“Congratulations to Superintendent Behle, Principal Merfeld, and all the hard working teachers, staff, parents, and students who made this achievement possible,” Lucero said. “STMA is committed to high quality education and become a Reward School demonstrates that commitment.”
In 2012 the STMA School Board set a goal to be in the state’s top 15 percent by 2016. In 2015, STMA achieved the top 15 percent ranking with the science achievement ranked in the top seven percent, math achievement in the top 12 percent, and reading achievement in the top 15 percent.
“As an educator myself I understand the importance of helping our children set goals and priorities and then working hard to achieve those goals,” Lucero said. “One of my goals and priorities in the legislature is to continue working hard for equity in education to close the per student funding gap our schools receive in state funding.”
