Bison Corporation, an ownership group from South Dakota, is eyeing a long-abandoned property in eastern St. Michael to start a motorcycle dealership.
The company is applying for several conditional uses and sign variance to create a “premium motorcycle and motorsports dealership.” The site would be the former International Antiques/Builders Carpet building at 5358 Quam Circle, near Minnesota Highway 101.
The facility would become an Indian Motorcycle dealership, complete with showroom, service center and events area. Bison representative Doug Kauth is asking for the city to make several concessions, including some rezoning for live events, which the applicant said would happen about six to 10 times per year.
Currently, Bison Corporation has hopes to own and operate a similar dealership south of the Twin Cities along U.S. Highway 169 and has proposed another in Johnston, Iowa.
The St. Michael City Council will hear an initial report on the application for conditional use permits at the site at its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9. Additional variance requests will be heard at the March 2, 2016 Planning Commission meeting.
The council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday and is open to the public.
Roadmaster says
There is activity at the building site. Looks like brush is being cleared as well as construction to the structure itself. Anyone know if the Indian dealership is moving forward?
Mike Schoemer says
Yes. Work’s in full swing.
