Big Lake Police Department Loses K-9 Suddenly

February 25, 2016 By Mike Schoemer

Another area law enforcement organization has lost a furry partner, as K-9 Ecco, a member of the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department, died earlier this month.

The Big Lake Police released this information about Ecco’s sudden passing:

“The members of the Big Lake Police Department extend their condolences to Sherburne County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Sturm and his family in the unexpected loss of his K-9 partner Ecco yesterday.

Deputy Sturm and Ecco provided countless instances of assistance over the years to the officers of the BLPD in narcotics detection, public K-9 demonstrations, and suspect location.

Thank you for your service Ecco, our thoughts are with the Sturm Family.”

Ecco was also often seen at ISD 728 schools, just north of St. Michael, including at Elk River High and the elementary schools.

Wright County lost one of its K-9 partners – Saber – to complications due to a tumor back in January.
