It was an exciting Tuesday night at the St. Michael SuperAmerica. The store located on Central and connected to McDonalds has already seen an upswing in business with the large Powerball looming Wednesday night and then a group of Buffalo High School lunch ladies stopped in with some big news.
“It was crazy! I didn’t expect us to be the ones selling a $50,000 winning ticket. It was fun,” store employee Kayla Reynolds said after their visit.
The Buffalo lunch ladies, a group of 16, came just one number short of winning $950 million dollar jackpot in Saturday’s drawing. But $50,000 is $50,000.
The group of lunch ladies began playing Powerball together after watching another group of lunch ladies win big in 2003. This is their biggest win but that doesn’t mean they are done playing.
They hope to visit Minnesota State Lottery again later this week for an even bigger check.
After taxes and splitting the $50,000 prize, each lunch lady will receive approximately $2,000.
“We’re having a ball,” winner Lynette Neumann said Tuesday afternoon. “Everyone’s so excited for us. It’s a lot of fun.”
Wednesday night’s drawing is expected to go above $1.5 billion.
