Medical Examiner: Monticello Man Drowned on Night of Disappearance

October 26, 2015 By Mike Schoemer

The Anoka County Medical Examiner’s Office has returned its results on the examination of Joseph Brunn, the 23-year-old Monticello man who disappeared earlier this month and was found in the Mississippi River in Otsego after thousands assisted in a four-day search.

The ME report states Brunn died of an apparent drowning, and that alcohol was a “significant” condition in the young man’s death.

Witnesses said Brunn, who was attending a wedding earlier on the night of Friday, Oct. 2, walked away from Boondox Bar and Grill in Otsego around 2 a.m. Saturday morning and wasn’t seen again. Some stated he walked into a cornfield near the Holiday Inn Twin Cities location in Otsego.

That field, along with many others, was searched over the course of several days, until Brunn’s body was discovered by searchers in the river on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 8.

Funeral services were held in St. Michael the following week.
