Cellular Plus in Albertville, the local Sprint retailer, has closed its doors.
A sister store in Monticello has also ceased distributing cellular phones for the communications giant, but it liquidating its supply of cell phone accessories, including cases, chargers and travel chargers, for a short time.
Cellular Plus notified employees via e-mail of a series of training sessions about two weeks ago, one employee reported on social media. Then, days later, the staff was notified the store was closing “indefinitely.”
Attempts to contact Cellular Plus staff were made, but calls weren’t returned.
Cellular Plus operated in the Albertville Crossings mall for about three years. Prior to that, the store was located for several years next to Caribou and Subway on the opposite side of Wright County Highway 19/LaBeaux Avenue.
It’s the third cell phone store to close or change hands in the last three years. St. Michael’s BB Wireless/Verizon became a Verizon Select store in 2013. Months later, the Shock City Verizon in Albertville closed up shop in Albertville (in the former Sprint location).
