After a summer of construction, St. Michael’s newest business is arriving just in time to toast up those pumpkin spice lattes.
Dunn Brothers, owned by STMA resident Matt Kammann, is flinging its doors open bright and early at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 5. A grand opening celebration, with food and drink specials, some live events and specials, is set for Saturday, Oct. 10.
“We’ve had a really busy last couple of weeks and cranked away on the inside of the building in order to get the look and feel we want,” Kammann said. “We hit a snag this summer with some of the engineering. Nobody’s fault, but it did kind of slow things down. The thing is when you grade a lot that’s been at the center of town for a while, you never know what you might find. But we feel good about opening the doors in time for fall.”
And why not? The shop is set up with a rustic/industrial feel, which is what Kammann told city planners he’d shoot for when he set out to open the coffee shop on the split of St. Michael Parkway and Highway 241 (Central Avenue). The drive-up cue will stack cars from the eastbound side around to the west, and then traffic can continue through the lot to either direction. There’s plenty of space for people to maneuver through, he said.
Inside, of course, the shop will serve up everything fresh. Beans are roasted on site, and ground at the time of brewing. Sandwiches and other small foods that will be served up for lunch (soups, salads) will be made fresh as well.
“If you’re sitting in the drive-up line for a couple of extra minutes vs. some other places, it’s because your food is being made right after you order it. It’s not flash frozen, so we aren’t just slipping something into a microwave,” he said. “I think people will wait a couple minutes longer for fresh food.”
For now, hours are projected to be 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, Matt said. Staff has been hired, but applicants are welcome to stop into the store at 201 Central Ave. E. to grab an application.
