St. Michael Parishoners past and present are invited to the Historic St. Michael Catholic Church in downtown St. Michael for a special Mass celebration at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
The Mass will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of the church, back in 1890.
The church, which has been the cornerstone of the community throughout its history, has been used by Alleluia Lutheran Church for its Sunday celebrations, but is no longer utilized by the St. Michael Parish for church functions. The era ended last year when St. Michael Catholic School students began attending Friday Masses at the current Catholic Church off Frankfort Parkway.
Saturday and Sunday services haven’t been held at the Historic Church for more than five years.
Saturday’s service will be credited toward Sunday attendance for those participating. Fr. Peter Richards will preside over the ceremony.
