UPDATE: This closure, according the MnDOT, has been postponed.
NWCTODAY will update, again, when more information is available.
Original story: With concrete curing and shoulders added to the newest three-lane stretch of Interstate 94, some final preparations need to be made before road construction switches, in earnest, to the eastbound stretch of the freeway between St. Michael and Rogers.
To do that, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the Rogers exit – and access to Minnesota Highway 101 from westbound Interstate 94 – will be closed overnight on Wednesday, June 24, weather permitting.
The closure will start with the state shutting down access to the main exit first – or local traffic using 101 to access downtown Rogers (south of the freeway) or the immediate area around John Milless Drive. The so-called “flyover” bridge exit will be shut down after 8 p.m. Wednesday night, as well.
The total closure should last about eight hours, according to MnDOT documents released Friday, June 19. The exit will be shut down from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
While the exit is shut down, crews will lay down asphalt to continue a third lane on westbound I-94 from the Rogers exit under the 101 overpass and to the newly created highway west of 101.
A major switch will happen, then, in early July, as the head-to-head traffic on I-94 will switch from the eastbound lanes of the freeway to the new, westbound side. Construction crews will then work on the completion of the eastbound bridge over the Crow River just east of St. Michael, and the three-lane road that will run from the Minnesota Highway 241 exit to Highway 101 and the existing, three-lane highway.
