Two people are in custody this morning after they led local law enforcement on a high speed chase from Monticello to Albertville, and then through the new County Road 37 construction zone before losing control of the car near Minnesota Highway 101 in Otsego.
The chase, which lasted about 10 minutes, exceeded speeds of 90 mph. The driver of the sedan also put lives at risk when he exited Interstate 94 in Albertville and whipped around on Main Avenue, crossing Interstate 94 and heading on to County Highway 37.
The suspects also passed vehicles, including a pair of semi truck and trailers, on the right shoulder, according to audio obtained this morning by Police Clips.
According to scanner audio: The car, occupied by a male and female, was encontered by Wright County deputies in Monticello near the Kjelberg Trailer Park area around 11 a.m. before bolting off when a traffic stop was initiated. An initial run of the plates by a deputy showed expired tabs and plates on a different color of vehicle than was registered.
During the chase, which ripped through the County Highway 37 construction area – including areas where pavement has been removed to leave a gravel road bed – a cell phone and/or a sunglass case was thrown from the vehicle. Deputies were searching Monday morning for those item(s).
The chase ended on eastbound County Highway 37 when the driver lost control and made contact with a Minnesota State Patrol vehicle who was in position to conduct a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver. Two suspects were apprehended and taken to Wright County Jail awaiting charges including felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
